Jais raids Shia HQ in Taman Seri Gombak
GOMBAK: The Selangor Islamic Affairs Department (Jais) raided a Shia headquarters in Taman Seri Gombak, here, last night and seized numerous items linked to the deviant teachings.
Among the items seized at the shophouse, which were unoccupied when raided, were several books and posters which contain Shia doctrines.
Jais Enforcement Division officer Mohd Sharom Mat Maarof, who led the 11.30pm operation, said they also found several new books on Shia, believed to have been brought in from Iran.
“We obtained a search warrant on this premises from the Petaling Syariah Court, after investigations revealed that it had been used to spread Shia teachings.
“During this operation, Jais found that there were a lot of reading materials on the deviant teachings including several books which we believe had been brought in from Iran.
“All the materials related to Shia were seized, and we are investigating the case under Section 12C of the Syariah Criminal Offences (Selangor) Enactment 1995 for defying the lawful orders of the mufti (fatwa), and Section 7 of the same enactment for spreading false doctrine,” he told reporters at the premises after the raid.
He said the Shia group had been operating there since 2008, masking their activities by registering their organisation as a trading company. Last night’s raid was the third operation conducted against the group at the same location.
It was learnt that the premises were frequented by Shia followers from all over the country.
New Straits Times followed the raid, and saw numerous posters bearing photographs of famous Shia scholars posted on the wall of the premises located at Jalan SG 3/16.
There was also a signboard on one of the walls that said ‘Premis ini untuk penganut syiah sahaja’ (This premise is for syiah followers only).-NST
